Freedom Plugs are a search for a light of hope. Each pair has a traditional tattoo design engraved by an anonymous person who is doing time at the state prison in Oaxaca, México. This project arises from the belief that creativity is a positive force that helps people express themselves and develop as individuals. This is a great opportunity to support innovation born from the conditions of confinement giving each artist the possibility of creating unique pieces and at the same time create income for the inmates and their families.
Three years ago, Jason Pfohl (founder and designer of Gorilla Glass) started the print workshop Taller Siqueiros inside the Ixcotel State Prison in Oaxaca, Mexico. Helped by the prison director and in collaboration with a group of local artists, this workshop has provided inmates with art lessons and allowed them to practice different ways to express themselves and learn new skills.
Jason's close relationship with the inmates has inspired him to come out with our latest collection: FREEDOM PLUGS, giving each artist the possibility to create unique engraved with a traditional tattoo design. This project allows inmates to generate income for their families.
